A dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in conditions that affect skin, hair and nails. Their approach to hair loss is symptomatic. A Trichologist is a person who specializes getting to the root cause of hair loss and their approach to treating hair loss is holistic.

Is Hair Loss Permanent?

Hair loss (alopecia) can affect just your scalp or your entire body, and it can be temporary or permanent. Once a hair follicle is damage due to scarring types of hair loss, hair cannot grow from that follicle. Having many damaged hair follicles creates permanent bald spots.

We highly recommened that your choice of style is tension free. Braids - even knotless add tension because the added hair weighs down your existing hair and the same with hair extensions that are sewn onto braids. Wigs that you can remove are a better option to allow for breathability of the scalp and less rubbing on the hairline.

It's not what you put on your scalp that will stop the hair loss alone, but it's what you put inside. The foods we eat can make or break our hair growth cycle. When the hair growth cycle gets off track we experience hair loss and shedding. Eating foods that aren't nutrient dense impact the way our hair grows as well.
